Webinar:
Identity Theft: Are you Protected?
Posted 30 June
2010
You’ve no doubt heard
the horror stories of people having their private information stolen
and used to drain their accounts, ruin their credit, etc. For a small
business owner, it can ruin your status with vendors and clients alike.
Nathan Tobey & Lindsey Smedley of Veridian Credit Union have some
great advice, tips, and tools for how to avoid identity theft problems.
Lindsey Smedley is a Business Relationship Officer with Veridian Credit
Union. She has been with Veridian for 9 years, beginning on the teller
line in April 2001. Throughout her employment, Lindsey has been a
Member Service Representative, Loan Officer, and Senior Loan Officer
before moving to her current position. After graduating from East High
School in Waterloo in 2000, Lindsey attended the University of Northern
Iowa for 3 years, focusing on Business and Marketing. In 2003, she
transferred to Upper Iowa University after obtaining a full time
position with Veridian Credit Union, where she graduated in May 2005
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Lindsey is an active
member of the Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce, and has been involved
with the Jaycees as well. She has volunteered with several local
agencies, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Iowa.
Nathan Tobey is a Business Relationship Officer with Veridian Credit
Union. He has been with Veridian for five years, starting on the teller
line in August of 2005. In February of 2006 Nathan moved to the Member
Contact Center. In June of 2006 Nathan took on the role he currently
has now. After graduating from Sumner High School in 1999, Nathan moved
to Mason City to attend North Iowa Area Community College to study pre-
Engineering. In the fall of 2001 Nathan and a business partner
developed a business plan through the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial
center at NIACC that won them the North region entrepreneurial contest
and a chance to present their business plan to John Pappajohn himself.
Even though their business idea was not chosen for funding, it sparked
an interest in business within Nathan that he wished to further pursue.
Nathan moved to the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area in 2002 and enrolled in
Finance at the University of Northern Iowa. He graduated in the spring
of 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. During his time at UNI
Nathan helped build a business plan for a family member, and used an
incubator in the Curris Business Building. Nathan is active in his
local Chambers of Commerce as well as the Leadership/Mentorship team
lead for Cedar Valley Young Professionals.
