Senior
Tech Computer Classes Begin in March

A variety
of Senior Tech computer classes offered by Hawkeye Community College
will begin the week of March 8 and will run through the week of April
26. Senior Tech classes are designed for adults who want to learn to
use computers so that they can keep up with their children and
grandchildren. In fact, this age group has the fastest growing number
of users while growth among many younger users has remained flat.
These classes are for individuals with little or no computer experience
who are interested in learning computer skills and/or advancing their
computer skills. Time is provided for participants to receive extra
help or practice skills learned. The cost for the classes is $100.
Classes will be held at Hawkeye’s Cedar Falls Center, 5330 Nordic
Drive. To register for "Basic Computer Skills" or "Internet/Email"
classes, please call 319-296-2460.
"Basic Computer Skills" will teach the beginner computer vocabulary and
basic word processing and will help participants understand the
operating system. In addition, participants will learn how to locate
items on the computer, how to use a mouse and keyboard, and how to work
with pictures and clip art. This class will be held on Mondays and
Wednesdays beginning March 8 through April 28 from 8:30-11:30am. Two
additional classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will run
from March 9 through April 29 from 1:30-4:30pm and from 6:00-8:30pm.
"Internet/Email" will teach participants web basics, surfing the
Internet safely, how to type in web page addresses, how to conduct
searches on the Internet, email basics, adding attachments to email,
how to download files from the Internet to the computer, and using
favorites. The Internet/Email classes will meet on Mondays and
Wednesdays beginning March 8 through April 28 from 1:30-4:30pm and a
second class will meet from 6:00-8:30pm. A third class will meet on
Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning March 9 through April 29 from
8:30-11:30am.
