Buy Local Campaign Seeks New Members by March 1

The Northern Iowa Food and Farm Partnership (NIFFP) at the University
of Northern Iowa is accepting new members for the Buy Fresh, Buy Local
2010 campaign to promote local food purchases in seven Iowa counties:
Benton, Bremer, Black Hawk, Butler, Buchanan, Grundy and Tama. Those
who join by March 1 will receive full membership benefits.
"Members can be farmers, grocers, institutions, restaurants, processors
or other food-related businesses that buy, sell or process locally
grown foods," said Andrea Geary, NIFFP coordinator.
In 2009 Buy Fresh, Buy Local in Black Hawk and neighboring counties
worked with more 30 institutional buyers who purchased $2.2 million of
locally grown products, Geary said.
"We organized farm tours for area food buyers, promoted local food
producers and businesses, organized six extended-season Harvest Markets
in the area, and helped build relationships between local food growers
and buyers," she said
In addition, members are listed in the printed full-color and online
directories and the weekly local food availability list; can use Buy
Fresh, Buy Local promotional materials; and receive marketing
assistance.
