Delhi
Dam
Break - What You Can Do?
Posted 28 July 2010
So far, Governor
Culver has declared 46 counties in Iowa a disaster. A Presidential
Declaration request has been made and it has been requested the
effective date start on June 1, 2010 when the first occurrence of
flooding took place in Iowa.
Governor Culver suggested that people in need of resources and those
that have questions about volunteering, how to give donations, legal
information or have general questions call the Iowa Concern Hotline at
1-800-447-1985. Stress Counselors and resources are available 24 hours
a day, every day.
Iowa Concern has received numerous phone calls regarding ways people
can help with the recent floods and the Delhi Dam catastrophe. Please
do not send clothing, furniture, etc. there is no place for people to
store these items. Cash is the best donation and can be given online
via the Aid
Matrix
Network.
For those wanting to volunteer, Delaware County Emergency Management
prefers that people and groups register at www.volunteeriowa.org.
Registering does not guarantee those willing to volunteer will be
called; it is up to the community whether they pull in volunteers.
Volunteers are asked not to just show up.
Peggy Petlon, the Central Point of Coordination (CPC) coordinator for
Delaware County has suggested those affected by the flooding should
come to the Delaware Community Services Building at 601 Grant Street.
There will be people there to help those affected fill out the Iowa
Reimbursement Grant. To be eligible for this grant, those with damage
must be at the 200 percent poverty level; guidelines will be available
for eligibility determination. Bring original receipts for replacement
items up to $5000. Petlon stated there will be some funding available
for food, clothing, shelter, medications and mental health counseling.
Veterans may qualify for special funding.

to flooding and flood damage to homes and personal property visit here.
